In at the nursery part of the local big box yesterday and the daughter found a delight
One in the garden, hopefully it will set seed, must be a new variety given the way it's being sold.

The Hokowase strawberries are starting to ripen. Thee are superb, the best tasting strawberry that I know of in Oz, even only half ripe they have a lot more flavour than commercial strawberries.

Had to go back to to the big box store with the nursery today and came home with a collection of potential bee fodder
These all got planted this afternoon
Give it a couple of days for the plants to settle in and the area will be mulched with sugarcane mulch.

Those various shopping trips have also seen me pick up 9 tomato plants. Of these, I have grown

White Cherry, Green Zebra and a generic Mortgage Lifter before,

With Mellow Yellow, Sweet Cherry Gold, Honey Grape, Tommy Toe and Big Malaka (2 off) being new to me, even if some have been around for a while.

Big Malaka is of Greek extraction and promoted fairly well on one of our garden shows on TV and YouTube (Vasili's Garden for those interested). Reputed to grow up around the 1kg/2.25lb mark, we shall see how it goes.

Had to go into Warragul today to pick up bits and pieces, of course I had a look at the big box stores nursery and found this native violet
Viola hederacea "Monga Magic"

Differs quite a bit from the typical flower of this variety, which is a darker purple and white

Right back at the start of this glog, there are some pictures of our straw flowers, well they are back in stock locally, just starting to flower.

Starting to build the trellis systems for the cherry trees and grapes. Cherry trellis will just be straight wires like a fence on the taller post, the grapes will grow on a T trellis with one wire located in the centre of the T and one or two other wires each side on the arms. The posts on each trellis have been left tall enough that I can put netting over the top for bird protection.

Garden Sorrel is something that we stumbled upon 5 or 6 years ago and all the plants that I am growing are devissions from then. A group of 7 or 8 pieces has been sitting at the western end of the big bed largely ignored and overgrown. Got stuck into cleaning that area up today.

Being spring they run to seed at this time of year Trimmed up and lifted out of the ground they are healthy pieces.
Then I got to them, Seven pieces about that size went back in are leaf removal
I have a couple of other plants to supply leaves until these re-establish themselves. Flavour is definitely lemon

You sure have been busy. Your daughter and my daughter have very similar taste. I had to buy her that polka dot petunia for the past two years. We both love the Amistad salvia and your bees will too. They are always buzzing that plant. It's nectar has a very high brix.

Have modified tomato seeds storage system, from clam shells to adjustable storage containers, got these years ago, sitting unused in a cupboard, just a matter of finding right cupboard
3 in use so far, fits a lot better in the fridge I use for storing them

Planting tomato seeds now, 48 varieties in so far, way later than normal timing but should not be too late into the ground in a month to six weeks time. Going to have to go through everything later, can't find my Elbonian Mudball F6 seeds and North Elbonian Pinky seed so have gone back to th F4 that @Tormato sent to me. Pissed off with myself

Settled on 78 tomato varieties for sowing, 8 of which are in large numbers for sauce/give away and the other 70 I have down only two or three of for new to me or must have cherry/heart/slicers. Includes a couple from @Cornelius_Gotchberg and about 10 from @MissS , including the Kozulas and Heavyweight Competition ones. Thanks folks.

Late frost forecast for tonight, so mad dash around to cover the recently planted peppers and flower seedlings with buckets and plastic sheeting held up off the plants by mesh pots. We shall see if the Bureau of Maybeology get it right.

I have garden sorrel in my yard as well. It's considered an invasive weed here so if I don't pull it, the city will. Not only does the city charge a massive fee for this service, they're usually none too careful about where they tromp around. So I pull it quietly.

78 tomato varieties?? Wow! You have a large space. How many of each variety?

Well they did actually get it right, a light frost here this morning so worth the effort of covering the plants. The Bucket Brigade
