(((((Worth))))) It's a hard time, one that all of us who have furry "kids" face sooner or later. Last year we lost a 20 year old cat and her 19 year old daughter within five months of each other. They leave a huge hole in our lives when they go. There have been times here when what I call an "angel kitty" shows up at the door not too long after such a loss. I hope one shows up at yours.

We couldn't find 12 year old Herman cat this morning. Long story short, he's been diabetic two years and lately having issues with that and worsening osteoarthritis that makes it painful to walk. For the past week or so he hasn't been eating much and tests at the vet shed no light on that. He's been hiding lately so hasn't been getting regular insulin shots.

After not finding him this morning Pickles went on her daily walk. About five minutes later she came into the house and said she had found Herman, laying dead in the grass near the pasture fence. He was stiff as a board so it must have happened in the wee hours. There was an open hole about an inch wide on his hip near the tail but there's no telling if he was up and about, something chased and got him if or if he was just walking around, keeled over and then something messed with him a little after he was gone.

So Herman has now joined other cat's we've had that are buried under the Memorial Magnolia. It may be for the best because he was facing more tests and would not have been a happy camper. And I don't think tests would have resolved anything anyway. No more pain now. Rest easy, big boy, sweet prince. We'll miss you so much.

It has taken me a while to be able to post this as my heart was destroyed. My beloved Hershey, aka Flufferino, crossed the rainbow bridge. When we rescued him, he has been left in a broken down pen, with no food, water or protection. We found him right before a major storm hit. He was full of heart worms. We gave him the best doggie life we possibly could. He ended up blind, diabetic, with allergies and finally had liver cancer. So many medications and insulin shots twice a day. Special diet of boiled chicken etc. But the cost meant nothing as he was the bestest boy. The vet didn't expect him to live until December but he was a fighter and made it happily till the middle of May just after his 12th birthday.

@Spike - I'm glad Hershey had you to take care of him and show him what love is all about. I know it hurts like hell when they leave us and it's hard to think of them without crying but know that someday you will get to the point that you can think of Hershey and smile at memories of all of the wonderful things that made him special.

@WoodSprite, I'm so sorry to hear about Hershey. You did everything you could for him and gave him the best life he could possibly have had after the horrendous treatment he had been through. You made him a happy boy and in return he stole your heart. Maybe he'll run into Herman and they can swap stories about insulin shots and adventures at the vet.

Morty Underfoot, Mighty Heart Warrior. His mantra was “include me,” and he followed me everywhere. He was 18 months into a 12 month prognosis when I put him down on august 30, last week. Momma and Kona love you, buddy. Say hi to Pinker, Phalyn, and Fireball! InHeaven there can no Heaven be / if my cats are not there to welcome me!
