Even though the nights are supposed to be remaining at or slightly above freezing, the days will be in the 40's and 50's, so thinking of planting out some peas directly in the yard. We just had 2 days of very cold rain, and are needing more as we are droughty again, but my hands are getting itchy to play in the dirt.

We're fixin' to have a big change here from a prolonged warm spell to more appropriate weather. Lows are changing from high 50's-low 60's to mid 20's. The brassicas should be OK but I'm going to put a tunnel over the carrot bed tomorrow since they're pretty green and lush. And that bed has the three winter planted test potatoes in it and they're pushing up so those will get leaves dumped on them. I'll probably use both row cover and plastic over the tunnel.

Come to think of it, I might dump some leaves over the daikon radishes too. A few are pushing up out of the ground a bit.

We had 6" of snow last night. The temp now is 9 degrees and it's going down to 2 tonight. Iv'e been reading the catalogs and searching the online stores while trying to stay warm. I can only dream of planting anything or starting a grill. Sigh.

WET! Over 11" of rain so far this month. Looking at mid-20s for lows 1st part of next week. Wacky!!

we got about two feet of snow saturday.
a neighbor saved our butt after we had tractor issues, and cleared our driveway and around the house a bit.
he is a good guy.
today, sunny and bright, cold though. temps never got out of the teens. i'll take sunny and cold over two feet of snow.

Keith you get so much snow! We are in day four of an ongoing state of emergency here, after breaking all records - most snow in one day ever (80-90 cm), most snow in January ever, etc. and it's all over the place because of severe hurricane force winds (15 hours of sustained winds over 100 km/h). They have even brought in the military to help. There are still people who can't get out of their homes because of the drifts. I have lots of personal snow here but taking it bit by bit. A neighbor came in yesterday, climbed right through the drifts, to ask if I was okay. Offered to come with a snowblower I said no don't worry, I'll do it in time. Day two of shoveling today, and I got to the point I could see the end of the driveway. Said hello to some folks were climbing up what the plow left to get onto the hiking trail in their snowshoes. Then this evening after supper I heard some thumping said, could that be someone knocking on the door? Looked out and there were about 20 people out there. Three snowblowers, men women and kids, they all came to clear me out! Wow! They are neighbors but folks I never met before. Just goes to show what a great neighborhood we have here. I am blown away for that amazing kindness!

I heard about your record snow fall, [mention]Bower[/mention] and was wondering how you were doing. Isn't it great to have good neighbors? Lots of moisture for the spring melts. Bet it looks like the deep arctic there now. Stay safe and warm!

Bower that is just stupendous! I am so happy that they came to help you. These acts of kindness make everyone feel great. I love doing things to help others out. It makes me feel good and is needed by them. A win/win all around.

I'm happy that you can get out now if you have to. You have a mom that you need to be able to reach too.

@Bower, glad to hear that you survived that storm. There have been years when our snow resorts that not had that much in a year.

They just said the feels like could actually be in the 20s here in South Florida for tomorrow morning! I have full tomato fruiting on about 90+ plants. Should I pick all the ripe ones(could be 70 or 80 fruit plus cherries)

Yes pick all ripe ones and if you have some old sheets or cheap cloth throw over the top of the plants to help protect them

Fingers crossed for your beautiful tomatoes Ginger! Any cloth that will breathe is the best (vs plastic sheets I have used a plastic dropcloth once and learned the hard way, it causes condensation and plants were damaged instead of protected ).

Just took a pic of the amazing clear driveway courtesy of my neighbors. The real emergency is in the city where they have nowhere to put the snow, so they are loading up trucks to take it away.

W H A T ??? Oh my gosh I hadn’t heard that. A freeze like that practically ruined my garden one year. Lots of damage on everything. But it was earlier ( Dec I think) and I had time to replant beans, lettuces, etc. I tried to cover tomatoes but it is impossible when you have so many. They were damaged as well.

The winds swoop across my open area of yard and makes it worse- running sprinklers all night like they do in the fields
Isn’t an option.
