Re: 2022 Grow Logs for Giant Tomato Competition
Alright I’ll go first if no one else will. Planted my seeds 2/16. Got them in quart sized containers now and started feeding them every few days with MG organic ferts.
The garden plot they’re going into was pineapple until recently, I dug eight individual holes, mixed in compost and the rest of the good stuff.
Goals for me are not to grow a bigger tomato than all of you (don’t think I have much chanve there), but to break the 2 pound mark. Besides the giants @MissS sent out, Cuostralee and SOO seeds are from @JRinPA and were from big fruits, so I have high hopes.

@Mark_Thompson I think that you will easily reach your 2 pound goal if you keep your plants down to producing a few fruits per plant and get a fused blossom or two.

Domingo seems to be the leader for big blossoms and big ugly fruit. I’m just getting to the culling normal fruit stage (so hard to do!) and seeing a few like this.

If you are going for only one tomato, then measure them and see which one is growing the fastest. Of course you could allow them all to grow and just enjoy having some large deformed tomatoes.

Aghhh! The tomato above was definitely going to hit the two lb mark, then it rained every day for a few weeks straight, and it rotted. So frustrating.
I pruned all my diseased leaves, so basically all of them, but still have some good sized fruits so I’m not writing them all off as total losses.

Alright I need a judge’s opinion, did I break the two pound mark or not?
Variety is Domingo

Aw shoot. You just had to go and remove some seeds prior to weighing it didn't you?Mark_Thompson wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 9:24 am Alright I need a judge’s opinion, did I break the two pound mark or not?

I tared out the plate, so what was left of the tomato weighted 2-2. I’m just guessing for official weights the tomato should be pretty intact and free of gaping rot holes.

What a tomato! So rain will make a tomato rot?

Re: 2022 Grow Logs for Giant Tomato Competition
I think that you succeeded in growing a tomato that was over 2 pounds. Congratulations! You are also in first place now for our Giant Tomato Competition!
BTW thank you so much for starting this thread. You are one of a very few that requested seed and started a glog as everyone promised to do. I really do appreciate it!

Re: 2022 Grow Logs for Giant Tomato Competition
Thanks! As far as the rain goes I can’t say for sure, but there sure is a strong correlation.
Thank you @MissS for the seeds. I got Sumo and Domingo from you. Sumo was underwhelming, I did get one fruit just over a pound, but it tasted like a store bought tomato.
Domingo is a wild man. The same plant had two fruits that grew over two pounds, super vigorous crazy plant. It sprouts suckers midway down its leaves! The hardest part was keeping it pruned.
I grew some pretty fat Sweet Ozark Oranges too, decently over a pound, just using the pruning and growing tips recommended on here for large fruits.

Re: 2022 Grow Logs for Giant Tomato Competition
This tomato is the variety King Kong which I received in "Carolyn's Last Seed Offer" courtesy of Farmer Shawn. Planted seed on April 7th and put out in the garden in grow bag on May 18th. No special treatment was given. It's growing with 8 other varieties in grow bags in the garden. So far it is my biggest tomato for the 2022 season.

Wow @Yak54 you sure are doing an amazing job with these big guys. I really am enjoying seeing your work. Be sure to save some of those King Kong seeds so that you can pass them around. Carolyn sure would be happy to have some bragging rights for this one. I can picture her smiling right now.

Although these Indian Stripe tomatoes don't make the "Giant" category they are the biggest versions of this variety I've ever seen or grown./Users/Dan/Downloads/IMG_1213 2.pdf
