help for members with vision disabilities
I have just migrated here from Tville after being locked oit when I changed email servers.
I have advanced Macular Degeneration which makes it nearlt impossible for me to read text that does not have a contrast between colors. The menu bar is VERY hard for me to read: I hope the image loaded- I am just learning how to get around TJ !!! Any consideration will be appreciated- thanks-

Re: help for members with vision disabilities
@joparrott It seems that you may need a lighter background to go with the black text. I will bring it up with the other moderators...there may be an add-on that someone with MD could change to make the sight more readable.

Re: help for members with vision disabilities
I don't have the same reason, but it's harder for me to see the black text with the red background, too.
I think Rob might have to change the whole color theme in order to change that, though.
I'm curious if you or anyone else likes any of these themes (I don't have power to implement them; I'm just curious, since they all seem to work fine for me, as far as I can tell from clicking on the picture of each):

* https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/styl ... elegance2/

Here's a theme that's supposed to be high contrast:

Re: help for members with vision disabilities
The basic problem is the dark text on a dark background. The white against red for the welcome is easier to read. However I really do love the grey background on the pages.... Stark black and white can be too much contrast for my eyes.

@joparrott , i recommend using an extension in Chrome, or something similar. You can change your settings however you desire, not just here at Tomato Junction. Look at this link and scroll down to the "Color Enhancer" topic. It pertains to your issue

Re: help for members with vision disabilities
I experienced some of your vision difficulties about the time we last talked.
Severe cataracts in both eyes.
I was probably legally blind and couldn't recognize my own mother at 10 feet.
Surgery took care of it when I could finally afford it.
The good news is my eyes are healthy otherwise.

@joparrott
Welcome to TJ!!!
I have a different style installed on this board, I'm not sure if it will help but feel free to change it and let me know if it helps.
Go to "User Control Panel". to get there click on your screenname at the top right.
Select "Board Preferences", that should open up in "Edit Global Settings" if not click it to open.
You should see "My board style", change it to "Pro Silver"

Re: help for members with vision disabilities
@joparrott I am using a Windows browser. In settings which can be found under the three little dots ... upper right of the browser screen. In appearance there is an option for zoom. I tried zoom 110% and 125% and they do affect the text size on this site. I will try 110% for awhile to see if I like it. It does make it easier to read but decreases the total amount of text on a page.
I don't know what monitor/screen you are using. I have a 27 inch and it is much better than the smaller ones I had before. You can go larger if you use television screens. Most new ones have HDMI connections which a lot of computers have you would have to check first. There may be other ways to connect. Of course this depends on your desk space or whatever viewing conditions you have and your pocketbook. I have an old 50 inch TV but that would be too big for me.
There are also settings in my monitor/screen for brightness and contrast.

Re: help for members with vision disabilities
Any way to keep it optional? Add the original black text board style from the last two year back as a third option? I haven't seen any other options to change the text color as yet.

Re: help for members with vision disabilities
No there's no option to change just the text color, all of that is in the code. I can add more styles with different colors if that will help. What's the problem with the white letters? Maybe I can find a quick fix.

AND, if you need a larger font you can click that "Width" tab in the header and make it bigger along with adjusting the size of the forum width.

Re: help for members with vision disabilities
I think that I am having the same issue at @JRinPA. While I can see the white font in the header and it is as clear as can be, it is quite glaring on my eyes and I don't understand why because there has been white font on other places and it hasn't bothered me. I have had cataract surgery which may be influencing it but worth1 too has and it doesn't bother him. I suppose that I can just get used to it because it seems to be so very beneficial to others.

Re: help for members with vision disabilities
Do you think it's because of the old image with the big white letters in the image(TomatoJunction.com)? I will install a new image soon that will look clearer than what we have now.
