It seems a lot quicker to get ripe, which is a bonus for around here.
The original KB last year wasn't ripe until mid september.
The pizza guy I traded plants to still hasn't had any ripe ones.
I still hit him up for a free pizza slice anyway.

I may start some seeds now to take advantage of the summer heat and light, then
continue growing indoors over the winter in the windowsill.
It can only be a small sample of about 5 plants tho.

Bower i don't want to derail the topic to much. But i wanted to briefly touch on the early large tomato comment. My Pruden's Purple beat all the other large tomatoes in my garden, my mother's garden and all the neighbors' gardens. Something to consider.

2 of the cuttings I had under LED grow lights and are still the same size at the 1 month cloning stage.
2 I had in a sunny window and are 2x the original size.
The LED grow lights are 3 years old,I am wondering if they are pooping out.
They are the 2 foot ones walmart used to sell for $12 ea.
Good thing I cloned, the original plants succumbed to the hurricanes and tropical weather.
Other specimens of tomato were more the orange color vs. red.

1 last plant in the windowsill has 2 green tomatoes on it.
I estimate end of March for rich tomato flavor on my breath.
The plant is up to the ceiling and may attempt to get me while I type.
All the blossoms that were on the top of the plant dried up and fell off.
The tomatoes that formed are near the center and may have been exposed to a slight breeze.

Faster than expected.
I estimate around 4oz
Not bad for windowsill this time of year.
The other one is still green

A bit late to the supper here, but this is sure interesting. One thing I have noticed with tomato breeding, is the size (weight) of the F1 fruit is often the geometric mean of the two parents. We know Kellogg's Breakfast is a large tomato, but the male pollen donor here is unknown. The fruit size of your F1 looks to be rather large, maybe even nearly the size of Kellogg's Breakfast parent, which would suggest the male pollen donor was another rather large fruited variety with red flesh (or possibly purple/brown flesh). So I doubt 4th of July was the pollen donor since those tomatoes are a good deal smaller than KB. Any thing jump to mind that might have made the cross with those size/color constraints?

EDIT: I thought July 5th was a typo--if I read it right July 5th tomato is a grow-out from the 4th of July hybrid that you selected for larger size, is that right?

july 5th was a 7 or 8 year grow out of the 4th of july hybrid.
it was bigger than the 4th of july hybrid.
The clone donor of this plant when outdoors last summer had 18oz specimens and fast for a kelloggs- 70 to 75 days

good heat resistance, our heatwave started early last year.
What did the outdoor plants in last year was the august hurricane.
Not the wind,but salt spray.
I took cuttings a day before the storm hit.
I've had plants in the windowsill before for winter and this is the biggest specimen yet.
If the plant lasts a few more months it is big enough to clone again. It is up to the ceiling now.

The still green one shows the ribbing better on the top view.
The july 5th type I had was ribbed like that also.

I have the shiny foil things that people put on their windshields in summer to keep the heat out, backing the plant.
So the daytime sun reflects off it and back onto the plant and keeps it toasty

The july 5th was PL ribbed red but not as big.
For those playing along at home you might be able to duplicate the fun by a kelloggs breakfast cross with independence day determinate OP PL.
That is the one listed on some sites as 6-8oz
so this experiment gained the size and meatiness of the kelloggs.

Have you saved any seed from your F1 tomatoes and if so, how many F2 plants do you plan to grow in 2022?

I was going to grow mostly brandywine hybrids 2022 but I may pledge my allegiance to this type in my small garden this year.
I gave a local pizza guy F1 plants last spring (will trade plants for food) and he seemed delighted with them and kept me in free slices all summer.
It dawned on me today I should tease him with pictures and again when I actually pick it.
Since it's an addiction, I normally have 30 different varieties so it's like a sin to only grow this.
At least I won't have to make a map of the garden what is what.
I should really limit myself to about 50 plants this year but I may fall off the wagon and just keep planting until I can't stand upright anymore.

Which actually led to this variety;I planted the kelloggs breakfast and other plants in an overflow section of my yard when I ran out of room in the garden.

I bet it would be a hit with the food pantry supplier gardens;if they weren't so snarky I would give them some free plants this spring.
