brown peppers

I've grown some good brown sweet peppers in past years, and even though I don't need more seeds, I've found a few additional varieties to grow this year!

Sweet Chocolate was great a couple years ago, but since then (maybe because it was in a less favorable garden spot?) has been just ok.
Chocolate Wild Wonder is always great! Long thin peppers, very productive, sweet. I'm still using the seeds I harvested from a grocery store pepper several years ago. I've saved some seeds and marked them as F2, but have not grown them.
Chocolate Beauty did very well this year, a bell pepper
Chocolate Cake did ok, not as productive as CB

new ones:
Tawny Port F1
Georgescu Chocolate
Chocolate Snacker
and one spicy one: Mulato Isleno, tried to grow it last year but the seeds were mismarked. Bought from another source to try again.

Have you grown any brown (or purple) peppers that you'd recommend?

I’m growing Mulato Isleño (if it germinates) this season. I’m also growing Pasilla Bajio (waiting on germination), another chocolate colored pepper.

@habitat-gardener I have been growing the long Chocolate from Aldi's for a couple of years, tastes exactly like the store bought. I can't remember if it is the same Wild Wonders that you have, but it does sound familiar. I have saved seeds too, but since I saved so many from the original peppers I have not needed to use my F2 -- which I label M2 for "mine" since I have no idea if the original is a hybrid or not. Since at some point in the year, I will have to purchase fresh peppers anyway, it is just as easy to save seeds from them, and not worry whether my unbagged blossoms may be crossed. I have saved seeds from the mini-orange peppers from various outlets, and all of them seem to come true as well.

I've kept an eye out for long brown peppers at the grocery store and have not seen any since buying the Wild Wonders!
I'm reminded that I did buy seeds for Corno di Toro Chocolate from Solana Seeds (Quebec) several years ago, but iirc they didn't do as well as my "Wild Wonders" plants. I will have to try again this year!

I'm pretty sure that Aldi's does periodically carry the Wild Wonders long varieties in a mixed pack. This looks like what I remember buying, unless there is some other company that sells exactly this combo. https://www.sunsetgrown.com/our-produce ... s-peppers/ I grew out the long red ones too, but they didn't produce as well as the chocolate ones, and I had other earlier season reds already, so didn't pursue them again. Right now, all I see for sale at Aldi's are the mixed mini colors, but I know they had the long ones most of the summer (when I had my own!)

Poblano L https://www.tradewindsfruit.com/poblano ... B2EALw_wcB is another brown-when-ripe pepper, similar to Mulato Isleto https://www.tradewindsfruit.com/mulato- ... s2EALw_wcB. Most folks think they are the same pepper, but they're not. Although similar, the Poblano L is a little smaller, and ripens sooner, than Mulato Isleto. Just an fyi.

Bananapeno is a cross between banana and jalapeno. Walls are not as thick but I like the flavor.

In brown peppers, I've only grown Pasilla Bajio. Fantastic seasoning pepper, not too hot to use in stir-fry amounts, unique flavor. A big pepper plant and very productive.
