Mine was 2lb 5oz, so 2.3 lb.

The dog jumped on the tailgate and spiked it with paw, 10 minutes after picking.

I should have used those holes like a bass fisherman would....

Despite its lethargic beginning (and a couple lost to Soft Rot), the Young Strickler Cross (seed H/T @MissS) is going gangbusters, so much so that @DriftlessRoots & @bboomer have been PM'd to come over to pick one out for themselves; no response, yet.

Not only has it already produced more than few 36oz/907 gram fruits, but it has any number still hangin'...greenies, too:

This variety also lasts a LOOOOONG time after picking; an admirable trait, from where The Gotch is sittin', leastways. Beau coup seeds will be saved!

@Cornelius_Gotchberg Do you know the weight of the Young Strickler parent so that I can keep records?

All I know is that this Green Notecard remnant accompanied the seed (photobombed by the lovely and long suffering Mrs. Gotch's last Ananas Noire; she can't let go):
thumbnail_IMG_3345.jpg
If yer wondering where the "3" factors in, this marker is standing its post for the Young Strickler Cross, drippy from much needed rain:
thumbnail_IMG_3346.jpg
With an apparent genetic propensity to last a long time after picking (SIL got an under-ripe 2lb +/907 + gram specimen this afternoon that I picked over 3 1/2 weeks ago!)...this 'un could be the Real Deal!

@Cornelius_Gotchberg Thank you. What you are growing is seed from the 7.95lb plant grown by Young whose parent was a 8.35lb grown by Strickler, which was unbagged and open pollinated.

Picked a bunch this a.m. before they could soak up the 2" +/>5cms of rain and split. 10.356lbs/4.7 kgs total; should add, these are really Really REALLY meaty Tomatoes!

Those will fill a pot quickly for sauce. Hardly any work at all for the lovely Mrs. Gotch.

Gotta save seed before that happens, as I mentioned, this variety has a lot of promise!

I'll have to pick a bunch of sauce/pasters for a big batch of soup.

I can't wait to hear what seed they used. I bet that some of that seed was in the giant tomato seed offering here.

Yer looking at the final bounty (~40#/~18kgs) from ONE Young Strickler vine (seed H/T @MissS)...not counting the ~10#/4.5kgs already harvested or lost to soft rot.

I'm so glad to see that someone grew out and had good luck with the competition seed. Just seeing your bounty made the purchase worth it to me. The competition seeds were the most expensive seeds I have ever purchased. I won't say what I spent but some people there were bidding on a single pumpkin seed for $1,200.00. It was crazy!

@Cornelius_Gotchberg You did a great job at seed production this year, for sure. Now next year prune and grow only 1-2 fruit so you can win the competition. After all, growing the biggest one is what these seeds are about.

Hundreds of seeds will be collected from this Tomato, which is one of the meatiest I've ever handled; I'll have some pics of just how much so come Monday.

Will it be called the Young Strickler Cross, or does it need/deserve a more...um...contemporary handle?

If you wanted the name to be official. You would list it's weight followed by your last name and the year grown. Then you would list the Strickler by weight. This would be it's official name in the competition world. Of course you can call it whatever you would like here among friends.
