Re: Saffron Crocus Arrived
I tried this once many years ago. It's very cool that you get a harvest right away after planting in the fall. I wasn't able to keep mine going at the time, but was recently reading about it and considering a second try.
I wondered if this might be something I could put in right after garlic comes out, which is August here, and not too many crops are quick enough to produce since our days get shorter in a hurry after the equinox.

I've tried these a few times. The bulbs split into lots of little bulbs, which put up spindly leaves. The little bulbs never fatten up/flower.

At my last house, I had these in my perennial garden. I fed them bone meal and they bloomed every year as well as multiplied. I only collected the anthers once in all of those years.

Good idea, I’ll throw in some bone meal when I plant these, hopefully today or tomorrow.

Mixed in some bone meal, cotton seed meal and cotton burr compost. Finished 15 minutes ago and now it’s raining, good timing. Soil was pretty dry.
