Darkness in a song like you've never heard.

One (1) of my favorite tunes-Sittin' On Top Of The World-by two (2) of my favorite Bluesmen.
A decidedly somber Robert Cray:

And a FAR_MORE_UPBEAT Taj Mahal:

Taj Mahal grew up in the city of my birth. But, I did not grow up in that city. And, he wasn't born in that city. Gotch it?

Rumor was that the city where my parents raised the family, had an extremely poor maternity ward in their comforting of new mothers. So, my mother chose the large hospital in the large city, about 10 miles away.

First concert I ever went to was Paul Revere and the Raiders in 1964...the warm-up act was some strange guy, Taj Mahal. Being sixteen and not much into "real" music I was waiting for the popular sound that was on the radio. After a tune or two I started listening to Taj. That began my interest in blues/alternative music.

Yes, Paul Revere and the Raiders made me clap and yell for more, but Taj Mahal stuck in my mind a lot longer. I own more Taj Mahal and Robert Cray vinyls than Raiders.

Right now I am listening to an old CD "Wheels of Fire" by the first supergroup, Cream. Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton. After more than 50 years still sounds great!

I was a big CCR fan for a long time.
My first concert wasn't enjoyable at all.
It was the Cal Jam ll and there were thousands upon thousands of people there.
I came from the country and the idea of all these crazy people packed together just wasn't my cup of tea.
The one and only outdoor concert I ever went to in my long life that was any good was David Bowie in West Austin at a place called Back Yard.
I can't express how wonderful this place was and how well David Bowie did.
People could sit in trees and just hang out.
No overcrowded packs of idiots running around.

I got to see both Taj Mahal and Bonnie Raitt in tiny hole in the wall venues around Ann Arbor back in the late 70s. Too exciting for words. Then my crazy housemate dragged us all to a Procul Harem concert with Leo Kottke opening on solo acoustic 12 string guitar. Leo did an acoustic version of Power Failure, one of PH’s big hits. Never forgot that and became a lifelong Leo Kottke fan. Saw him twice in the Boston area thru the 80s and again in Florida just recently.
