First Tomatoes!
We have tomatoes coming! Several of those are supposed to put out big tomatoes but they didn't do much at all during last year's herbicided compost problem. They got a re-do this year and wow! The first tomato from 'Bill Bean' is the largest ever grown here, 1 lb 7 oz!
And 'Daniel Burson' was 14.7 oz. It's shaped weird because it was wedged in between two really stout stems and kinda grew around them.
These are the first Eva's Purple Ball:
It's going to finally be a great year for tomatoes, the first time in a long time. Can't wait to start canning!

Oh there will be plenty of BLT's, Panzanella salad and other good stuff along with the canning. Right now we're just eating these great tomatoes as they get ready. Not enough yet to can anything. It's when the avalanche hits that the canning commences!Cornelius_Gotchberg wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2024 7:58 amCanning...CANNING??? Indeed! The first few goodies are for the table. The avalanche is for the pantry. I've got 11 bags of strawberries put up for winter, the quart I bought yesterday at the farmer's market is for smoothies! A bit of immediate gratification, a lot of putting up makes for a well-stocked pantry. Prices are high enough without buying out of season!

Last night's sandwich with a big slab of that huge Bill bean tomato. No time for bacon or lettuce so no whining about that, Gotch! Just pure tomato and mayo enjoyment!
