Re: Jardín del Gotch
Yeah, Goliath Sweet is remarkably thick-walled for a bell, wish the plants would produce more fruit, though.
This season's Carmen and Giant Marconi Hybrids were, based on previous experience, the biggest disappointments.
We raised Atris a few seasons ago with well-above-average results, and then couldn't find seed.

Re: Jardín del Gotch
Except for our thriving Kale Patch and a small corner with two (2) each of Italian Flat Leaf, and Triple Curly Parsely, the planting surfaces are bare-n-empty.
This gave rise to a preponderance (over a thousand!) of small seedlings; they were everywhere, and I immediately assumed were the latest Fresh Hell weed variety sent just to p!$$ me off.
Anywho, I queried my Master Gardener Cousin-In-Law when he stopped by yesterday:
He: What do put in here, Horse $#!t or Cow $#!t.
Me: Neither
He: Well what do put in?
Me: My compost.
CLICK MOMENT: I compost beau coup Tomatoes; decide for yerselves: What gets me is that I coax/cajole/beg/implore/entreat/beseech, etc., seeds to sprout indoors, heck, I give 'em every opportunity...and then some!
And these do this well on their own?
Glass half full? They enrich the soil!

And Then There Were (almost) None! Was admiring the 1st seedlings breaking the surface but seven (7) short months ago.
Now, all of a sudden and at once...The Remains Of The Day: After culling out some of the best for the lovely and long suffering Mrs. Gotch's last Aunt Jenny's Tomato Breads of the season; these are all that are left. Sigh! Coupla more Monday Morning BLT Brunches**, at best.
**With Bucky Hoops tomorrow night, this week it'll be Tuesday Morning.

Re: Jardín del Gotch
Never thought about that, but I am now; yer right, they are. The quality I desire most is that they can sit on their butt; I've convinced myself that when they stand up straight, they stay good longer. Had last the last of the 2022 crop in late July.
But our Butternut Squarsh have never displayed uniform...um...form, though this year's an outlier; they've shown far less consistency of shape.
LUV looking at them on that table every chance I get, though; as luck would have it, one's going on the grill tonight.

Re: Jardín del Gotch
we usta love eating butternut squash. we just can't get them to grow to maturity on a consistent basis.
scarchuks, thelma sanders no problem. hubbards aren't a problem, but its not like you can split a squash with
your better half when you have a 20 or 30 pounder to deal with. we end up freezing some after we have eaten
as much squash as we care to over several days. 85 to 90 day squash is what works. once you get into 100 or 110
day maturity squash here abouts, its not a sure bet. they all eat up fine, eventually.

Re: Jardín del Gotch
@rxkeith; reckon they would. I'm pretty particular about my Winter Squarsh, and not entirely partial to any but the Waltham Butternut.

Re: Jardín del Gotch
Jardín del Gotch has officially closed out the 2023 Tomato crop with a Mountain Merit up top and the rest stunted Opalkas.
They went peacefully for this a.m.'s BLT Brunch:

Re: Jardín del Gotch
My grandparents grew korobi which is a flower. If you mean kohlrabi, it's quite easy to grow and I just slice it and use it for dipping and salads. I think that it tastes fine but what I really enjoy is the crunch.

Which variety? My ~35 Space Hybrid (some mature leaves are as big as pie-plates) are planted and under the lights.
